The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary 317

Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm, gardens and RetrEat centre on day 27 of our latest lock down. This morning the neighbourhood is cold with the winter freeze but soon we will experience the death of winter and the birth of spring, but also this morning in Ballinwillin we mourn the death and passing of Joe Mulcahy our neighbour, a legend in the music business and a founding member of the famous Maurice Mulcahy Band. A band that gave huge enjoyment to thousands of people worldwide. This morning our prayers are with his family, friends and neighbours. Now destiny calls Joe to a place of music where his trumpet will sound again for all our spiritual enjoyment, where his heart will always remain generous, all heavenly doors will open to his musical light as you now quietly befriend your death and you have no need to fear. You are among your own orchestra in the big band with your pure white suit you are now equal to your destiny and nearer to Earths heart. Rest in peace Joe. Continue to pray, bless and power healing to all who need it and wear your smile.

The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary Day 226

As a farmer who farms wild animals what I have noticed is that each morning they are always alert to a new scent in the air. The deer, the wild boar and even the goats always have their noses held high to pick up any difference that might put them in danger an they explore the world through their scent and their alertness.

Welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm, gardens and RetrEat center on day 6 of our new lock down. As a farmer who farms wild animals what I have noticed is that each morning they are always alert to a new scent in the air. The deer, the wild boar and even the goats always have their noses held high to pick up any difference that might put them in danger an they explore the world through their scent and their alertness. Do we walk around with our noses held high and for what reason? No good reasons like my animals. But what we can do is and how we can make the world immeasurably richer is to stop deciding our version of any experience is “the only one” and learn to appreciate the value of different points of view. That is my little message to you on this lovely crisp morning on the farm and looking forward to a productive, mindful day. Continue to pray, continue to send healing and blessings to each other and wear your beautiful smile.

The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary Day 225

We can all feel a sense of connection with the world and the people around us even when we are down, suffering from illness and having difficulties of any kind. We need to focus on the ordinary activities of our daily lives, activities that we do repeatedly each day, walking, talking, cooking, our work.

Welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm, gardens and RetrEat center on day 5 of our new lock down. It is Monday and the start of yet another week and another week of well being with a sense of contentment, peacefulness, mindfulness and a connection with place and people. We can all feel a sense of connection with the world and the people around us even when we are down, suffering from illness and having difficulties of any kind. We need to focus on the ordinary activities of our daily lives, activities that we do repeatedly each day, walking, talking, cooking, our work. Oftentimes we are on automatic pilot and don’t remember the past few minutes. In this way we lose the moments that make up our life and once lost they are gone forever. However, when we pay attention to these regular activities we can reclaim the lost minutes of our day and we can connect more deeply with our life. We can also reconnect with the world around us by noticing the sky, the earth below our feet and the people around us. When we look beyond ourselves we can gain a wider perspective on our on our own life and our place on this planet, our place within the heart and soul of Mother Earth. Have a great, peaceful and mindful day and week and continue to pray, bless and heal each other and wear your smile.

What I am going to talk to you about today is “man in the field”. This was prompted by a lovely TV documentary on TG4 recently and they were saying that back in the 50s and 60s in rural Ireland no matter what time of the day you would always see a man, woman or people in the fields but not so much anymore.

Good morning to everyone out there and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm, gardens and RetrEat centre on day 2 of our new lock down. It is a lovely morning here and everyone is in a very positive mood here. Well, did you do your 3 minutes this morning before your day began? Great! It will help you greatly during your day. What I am going to talk to you about today is “man in the field”. This was prompted by a lovely TV documentary on TG4 recently and they were saying that back in the 50s and 60s in rural Ireland no matter what time of the day you would always see a man, woman or people in the fields but not so much anymore. You will nearly always see a man in the fields in Ballinwillin House Farm and I spend as much time as possible in the fields with nature and the animals. But around the country the farmers are in their fields also but farming methods have changed and become very mechanised. But it is up to all of us to be in the fields or in nature as much as possible and soaking up the magnetic forces of Mother Earth. So today, irrespective of your gender, be the man in the fields, be mindful, be positive and pray, bless and send healing to all and wear your lovely smile.

It is a truly beautiful day here on the farm and during meditation earlier when I was sitting still and resting I thought how beautiful it is being alone with oneself hand here on the edge of the gardens I can certainly say I am living joyfully and at peace and I sense the birds and the animals sense this also.

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm on day 7 of our new lock down. It is a truly beautiful day here on the farm and during meditation earlier when I was sitting still and resting I thought how beautiful it is being alone with oneself hand here on the edge of the gardens I can certainly say I am living joyfully and at peace and I sense the birds and the animals sense this also. There is great relaxation and happiness in not wanting, in not being something or someone and in not going somewhere. When I sit in silence here and gaze at the beautiful flowers and trees and the coloured leaves falling back to Mother Earth or the clouds moving slowly across a tumbled sky. In there moments I am released from the dependence on the future and I have no longings to be other than where I am and who I am meant to be. So why not try to do likewise today? I assure you it is very nourishing for your mind and body. Continue to pray, bless and send healing to each other and be mindful and careful and above all else, smile on the world.

The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary Day 201

A great friend of mine said to me yesterday “why don’t you smile more?” but I said I am always smiling inwardly and it is not necessary I feel to smile outwardly all of the time. When I began these daily blogs it was to let you all know what was going on around the farm and gardens on a daily basis during Covid19, what is going on with The Mindful Farmer, how he feels about issues and what messages I like to humbly share with you and then you share with me.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on day 96 out of lock down. You know, it is a great feeling to have survived the past 200 days together as a family, as a group with The Mindful Farmer. We have all played our part through thick and thin and yes there was plenty of both. It is working beautifully and nit is real life and it demonstrates to us all that each of us has an extraordinary and unique gift and expressing our divinity on earth. We do this when we carry out our daily work with love, care and mindfulness, irrespective if it is our work on the farm, or in the home, cooking or baking, walking or talking or even like last weekend minding our grandchildren. We are all following our time path of peace and justice and helping to bring peace to all around us and helping to make the world a better place and Mother Earth more sustainable so yes, we are in this together. So continue to pray, to bless, and send healing to each other and wear your smile, be it inward or outward, your heart knows best and it will heal all around you. There is no greater gift that a person can give to themselves than to pray for the health, wellbeing and happiness for everyone in their life, those they dearly care for, and those who we may meet in our daily lives.

The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary Day 189

Well The Mindful Farmer did such a thing this morning. I went for a beautiful, meditative walk along the seashore over rocks and walls and admiring all the beauty around me until I came to a very special rock formation and I immediately called it my gaze, my gaze where all I roam and looked through this window of sheer beauty and magic. When I look through this magic window do I see part of myself outside?

Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on this very beautiful and sunny Sunday September morning and day 89 out of lock down. Another day for us all to take some time out, rest, go for a mindful walk or do something that relaxes you. Do I understand it myself? Can I embrace it and turn it into the gift that it is? Yes I can today and because the immediate rock fall all around is grey it reminds me quickly that nothing in the world is black or white but everything like this landscape is made up of grey. I embraced that thought for a while and then as I angled my vision in a different direction through this narrow magic window I see a beautiful tuft of golden and crimson little flowers waving at me and fluttering, and beautiful, and letting me know noddingly that if we can survive here on this rocky out crop we can all survive in our grey, rocky world if we pray, bless and send healing to each other. Wear your Sunday September smile and have a beautiful, mindful and peaceful day.

It was great to be alone in the garden this morning at dawn as the day was beginning to express its light through a veil of fog and parting darkness. It was as if the new day was emerging with shyness and reminding me that the nature I am enjoying and experiencing here at Ballinwillin House and in the farm is the highest truth from Mother Earth, Mother Nature.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on another amazingly beautiful September morning and day 83 out of lock down. This morning it is silent, pure and full of glory, mystery and peaceful joy and I feel it is entering deeply as I awaken to the new day reminding me that whatever the present moment and this new dawn holds, accept it as if I had chosen it specifically for me, my family and friends and that I have a duty to live and work by it. It is our duty to live this day as the gift that it is and be mindful, helpful, live in the now. Continue to pray for all especially for those coping with Covid19. Continue to bless and send healing to each other and wear your sunny September smile. It takes very little to make someone happy.

Last night we had a beautiful time in the gardens. It was such a special time. So peaceful and serene. I was so aware of the silent beauty around and our listening was so attuned to the deepest silence where every sound could bring distance home. Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on another beautiful September morning. Last night we had a beautiful time in the gardens. The fragrance of the night reminded me clearly - you are a child of the earth and this refreshes my heart. It also made me recognise that these gardens and all around are a gift and a sweetness that flows from Mother Earth. Maybe it was my inner eye enabling me to see through this silence and giving me a glimpse that infinity hides. In the simple sights that seem worn to our usual eyes. So for today, cast your usual or casual eye to all the beauty of nature around you and continue to send blessings and healing to each other and continue to pray for an end to Covid19 and wear your beautiful smile.

Yes, we have survived another storm last evening but we live in hope that is may have passed but as always in life things come and go and pass and we then have new beginnings again. Last night before I retired and again this morning the master stags have begun the rut and were roaring all night. Beautiful, expressive and wild and their circle of life is beginning again, it was their time to procreate again, their time to give new life and they were announcing it quite clearly as their powerful roar penetrated the night and morning sky.

Beautiful, expressive and wild and their circle of life is beginning again, it was their time to procreate again, their time to give new life and they were announcing it quite clearly as their powerful roar penetrated the night and morning sky. They are always content with nature. What can we learn from them? I believe the following – we must be content with what we have, where we live, rejoice in the way things are and in doing so we realise there is nothing lacking and the whole world can belong to us. So today, be content, be happy, be mindful, be prayerful and send blessings and healings to each other and wear that smile.

Mother Nature is unleashing all her sadness on us at the present time and this morning she is certainly crying a lot. There are times when people who don’t know about farming would ask us how we keep going in this business and the answer for us is simple – we love what we do and we joy in the idea that we are producing quality organic meats for the health of our consumers.

Work yesterday we were concentrating on the gardens and we will continue here for the rest of this week. It was bitter sweet work. On one hand you see the destruction and on the other you see the remaining beauty and some plants saying at us “we escaped” and “we are here” and “cheer up”. There is no doubt that the earth and Mother Nature has its own voice and its own way of expressing its unhappiness with our behaviour but by listening to her, the birds, the animals and us all can find our own way home even from far distant places.

Today I would like to talk to you about the old days and the old ways of my life in West Limerick and this was spurred on in my early morning meditation it was a simple life, simple acts of everyday life, rising and going to rest, the lighting of candles, the keeping in of the embers at night to rekindle the fire in the morning. Other aspects of our simple life like sowing, reaping, harvesting, buying and selling and of course life and death. These were all part of our Celtic ritual and the circle of life.

Life continuously flows and when we arise each morning and pull back the curtains or open the window, we let in Gods light, air and sun in the form of prayer. All we have to do is allow these gifts to uplift our minds, hearts, souls and spirits and we must always be mindful that if we raise our thoughts to heaven we will always have clear days because the sun always shines above the clouds. We must always be awake to the ability to be surprised by who we really are deep down and from within ourselves. It is always the capacity for surprise that our inner wisdom will awaken in us if our heart and spirit is rested on the ground of Mother Earth

Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm on day 40 out of lock down. Last night I watched a very beautiful documentary on Sean Boylan, the West Meath football manager and herbalist. An ordinary yet very extraordinary man. Have we all this quiet, dormant extraordinary ability and wisdom? Yes we have! We must always be awake to the ability to be surprised by who we really are deep down and from within ourselves. It is always the capacity for surprise that our inner wisdom will awaken in us if our heart and spirit is rested on the ground of Mother Earth and we rest and take peace to our heart. We will then find that the eyes of our eyes will be fully opened but our hearts and eyes will never be fully opened without the explosion of prayer from within. I know as I experienced it again yesterday. Believe me when I say that prayer heal all, so take the time and that is why I devote the gardens at Ballinwillin House to mindfulness, to prayer, to thanksgiving and to God.

Continue to pray, bless and send healing to each other and wear that smile.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on this beautiful Monday morning and the beginning of yet another week with today being day 22 out of lock down. life is not happening to us it is responding to us and the energy we give it and of course we must give out positive energy at all times. Reality is flowing and science tells us so. Everything is moving, changing and the time we ordinarily think of is not real time but a picture of space

Welcome everyone to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens. Last evening we launched “Donate A Slate” at St. Georges Arts and Heritage Centre where I am a director and I was honored to say a few words and I referred to the fact that life is not happening to us it is responding to us and the energy we give it and of course we must give out positive energy at all times. Reality is flowing and science tells us so. Everything is moving, changing and the time we ordinarily think of is not real time but a picture of space and when I am out on the farm relaxing in the company of my deer, wild boar and goats, I have to sit on the ground whereby I am nearer to nature and Mother Earth and able to think more deeply and feel more keenly and in touch with my surroundings and my soul. So today, Sunday, sit a little while in nature, relax and dream and continue to pray, bless and send healing to each other.

I just completed a very nice meditation and the thoughts that came to my mind this morning is the fullness of the farm and the fullness and plenty of the garden and in this high summer season all this plenty is a blessing from the soil and Mother Earth. This is a season generous with its delight.

Welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens on day 3 of our new life and day 108 of my daily blogs. Good morning everyone. Quite a nice morning here this morning. I just completed a very nice meditation and the thoughts that came to my mind this morning is the fullness of the farm and the fullness and plenty of the garden and in this high summer season all this plenty is a blessing from the soil and Mother Earth. This is a season generous with its delight. The garden, as you can see, is lush with beautiful bright roses and splendid flowers. The borders are a rainbow of colour. The barn is full of sweet scented hay and the animals are happy in their knowing that all is ok for this winter and they are always in the knowing. So we have achieved so much so far this summer but we must take some time out to enjoy it all and we must remind ourselves to slow down and just look. Then the fullness of our summer gardens will fill us with gratitude and we cannot help but give praise and thanksgiving and blessings. To bless is to honour and to honour is to celebrate, to celebrate is to experience joy and to experience joy is to give thanks.

So today send blessings, healings and joy to each other and wear that smile.

The Mindful Farmers Daily Diary Day 85

When you think about landscape it is not just there, it took millennia to come here. Landscape is the first born of creation and it was here long before we were ever dreamed of. It was here without us and it watched us arrive and invade its privacy but we all know that the world would be impossible without landscape.

Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens. The weather is improving and looking good for my hay crop this week. I know you may think “will this hay season ever end” but it goes on always for a while every year but it is a very important part of my life and farming. This morning as I was out in Johns Mountain I could not but notice and inhale the landscape of this farm and area. When you think about landscape it is not just there, it took millennia to come here. Landscape is the first born of creation and it was here long before we were ever dreamed of. It was here without us and it watched us arrive and invade its privacy but we all know that the world would be impossible without landscape. Then the question I ask you this morning is why do so many of us not notice or pay attention to landscape and its display and array of natural beauty? Why do so many of us abuse, raid and rape it? Is the answer ignorance or greed or blindness or a combination of all three or do we believe we own it? I believe landscape is too shy to answer us as it has lived so long and so elegantly without us it always holds a watching eye but never intrudes. It is always so still and silent and beautiful. So the next time you are out for a walk or a drive, pay attention to the landscape around you as it will hold your mind if you ask it to.

Continue to pray, bless and heal each other and wear that smile.

As usual we will do our garden tour – on a Sunday morning it is my way of expressing thanks for those beautiful gardens even though the wind and rain have blown away all the lovely blossoms. That’s natures first strike against this week

Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens. Another wet and windy May morning. As usual we will do our garden tour – on a Sunday morning it is my way of expressing thanks for those beautiful gardens even though the wind and rain have blown away all the lovely blossoms. That’s natures first strike against this week. Nature hit at us again during the night as a group of foxes attacked our young baby deer and killed 3 of them. It is horrible to see even though John and I took turns walking the fields during the night they were too clever for us. This happens every year. We take turns doing 4 hour shifts. It is tough going for the next 4 – 6 weeks. Once more I am taught another lesson about nature. It has beautiful and gentle moments but nature also has incredible power to harm just as we say last night, what can I learn from it? I must learn to recognise that this river and this gentleness and beauty are part of the same nature and we must all learn to face the paradox of our own potential for greatness and destructive power too. But today we must rise up and feel part of nature even with all her tempestuousness and learn to live in harmony with her. It is just like family living, it will always test you.

Continue to pray, bless and heal each other.

. I noticed all the animals in a very joyful mood, dancing and bounding around in a playful manner. They say the animals see and feel good weather before we do and also when bad weather is approaching you see them gather and shelter and retreat into themselves.

Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens. A wild, wet and windy May morning. Very unusual weather here at the foothills of the Galtee mountains, normally it is mild at this time of year. I noticed all the animals in a very joyful mood, dancing and bounding around in a playful manner. They say the animals see and feel good weather before we do and also when bad weather is approaching you see them gather and shelter and retreat into themselves. So I am going to talk to you this morning about “joy”, inspired by my animal friends. Joy is playful with their parents and children. Joy is light hearted like deer calves ballet dancing. Joy is lively like a stream flowing down the side of the mountains, spilling and splashing our rocks and willows but joy is also being one with the moment. Like our retriever Marley, fully stretched out in a patch of sunlight, or to see a bee buzzing busily around the fragrant flowers. The quiet and ultimate joy for me, my family and friends and all you out there is that inner joy radiating out from your heart to indicate all whose acquaintance you meet and greet. So for today I want you to radiate out joy to the world.

Continue to pray, bless and heal each other.

As I watched last evening the proud young mother I began to wonder what were her thoughts? Was she delighted with her new born baby, her blossom? Was she pleased that her babies destiny was sheltered at this peaceful evening time? Was she happy of the secret stillness around Ballinwillin House Farm as a nature reserve? Was she pleased with the tranquillity that a May evening brings, beneath the turmoil of the life we are all enduring during Covid 19.

Good morning everyone and welcome once again to Ballinwillin House Farm and gardens. Great to speak to you all again on this beautiful May morning. Last evening when I was doing my final farm walk around before retiring I showed you a live video of a mother just after giving birth to a beautiful red deer calf and she was so protective just like any mother out there, just like you. I firmly believe that a child, or offspring of any species had that extra special bond with its mam. Then I think to myself may my eyes never lose sight of what I experienced on this farm and why and how I have been guided to be here and my sincere wish and prayer for you all out there today is that the light of the world we live in shine through and carry us all home, being true in everything er do, think, feel and say. Shine on, smile on.

Continue to pray, bless and heal each other.
