Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Ballinwillin House Farm, gardens and RetrEat centre on day 27 of our latest lock down. This morning the neighbourhood is cold with the winter freeze but soon we will experience the death of winter and the birth of spring, but also this morning in Ballinwillin we mourn the death and passing of Joe Mulcahy our neighbour, a legend in the music business and a founding member of the famous Maurice Mulcahy Band. A band that gave huge enjoyment to thousands of people worldwide. This morning our prayers are with his family, friends and neighbours. Now destiny calls Joe to a place of music where his trumpet will sound again for all our spiritual enjoyment, where his heart will always remain generous, all heavenly doors will open to his musical light as you now quietly befriend your death and you have no need to fear. You are among your own orchestra in the big band with your pure white suit you are now equal to your destiny and nearer to Earths heart. Rest in peace Joe. When I rise each day in thanksgiving I hear a voice of blessings whispering in my heart giving me harmony in my soul and in my life and allowing in the wild beauty of the visible and invisible world to gather around me and mine to embrace and mind me for my life. The setting was beautiful, outside in glorious sunshine, musicians, a local pipe band and a huge crowd. It was very special and I was pleased to see such a sense of community. People of all ages, people of all walks of life dressed in their summer finery all united in prayer. I am sure our ancestors were as impressed as I was as the rays of sunshine were beaming gently on them. I am sure that this remembering burial place and field of clay will remember every memory they brought here last evening and always.
Good morning everyone and welcome. Last evening Miriam and I attended a beautiful mass at the graveyard in Drishane Cemetery, Millstreet, Co. Cork. This restored and now beautiful home I know will shelter this fantastic person for their life ahead and I know that their heart will be tranquil here, blessed by peace and warmth and this home will be a fortress and a forcefield between heart and light.

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting an old friend who had restored a very old property, brought it back to life as it was over 100 years ago, beautiful restored walls, gardens and out houses, all painted with white wash, windows and doors painted in mailing red and then we dined on the old stone patio surrounded by old rambling roses wafting profusely all around us. This restored and now beautiful home I know will shelter this fantastic person for their life ahead and I know that their heart will be tranquil here, blessed by peace and warmth and this home will be a fortress and a forcefield between heart and light. I look at my work week and mark off the most urgent jjobs and then set about the days wirk and the weeks wirk with thought and grace and mindful of the gift of being able to do most of the jobs in a positive and healthy manner and as my late Mam used to say “ isn’t it great to be able”.

Well, after a very busy morning looking after people in the B+B and looking after all the animals The Mindful Farmer is relaxing in the garden with a well deserved cup of coffee. It is very beautiful and peaceful here as always and peace is so important in this age of speed and urgency as the battle for control of our minds is fierce. It is vital we take time in private to rest, meditate and pray and spread the love of life to all around on this Sunday. The more we love the more loving we become. An appreciation of what is beautiful develops through time and reflection and enables us to be surprised by the sunrise and sunset, nature and above all the kind word just like the soft rain that is falling this morning releasing the fragrance of the meadow and the plants, trees, and especially the roses.

It was a beautiful, unexpected thing to happen and a very beautiful message. We then shook hands, exchanged hugs and went our separate ways with a pep in our steps. As I was driving home I thought how wonderful it was for this special person to have such an impact in my life.

Yesterday I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting a very special person, a nurse in a hospital I was attending for some procedures. She asked me would I like to accompany her to a little church, a beautiful church nearby and we ambled across the road to this little church and sat and prayed and then she asked me to look at this sign in front of us which was in big, bold and coloured print saying "Jesus inflame our hearts with love for all." It was a beautiful, unexpected thing to happen and a very beautiful message. We then shook hands, exchanged hugs and went our separate ways with a pep in our steps. As I was driving home I thought how wonderful it was for this special person to have such an impact in my life. It was like discovering a fresh well. I think to myself even the oldest and longest lived of us should never neglect or shut down our sense of wonder no matter how long we live, we still haven't seen everything and then all of a sudden a beautiful little ladybird lands on a tall stem of grass right before my eyes. Today as we breathe on the altar of dawn and a new day, let us shelter within our tent of thought and see all beauty that is drawn to my eyes.

When we are blind and not noticing what nature is displaying to our eyes we are blind to beauty and if beauty has no magic for us we are not fully alive and very quickly we can become alone and we lose our sense of life and surprise.

just because peoples dress and behaviour might not fit the social norms and their looks might not fit in with others peoples expectations of beauty, their hearts might be as loving and kind as anyones. It is up to us to look deeper and prepare to have our spirits fed in the process.
Good morning everyone and welcome. Well, this morning I would like to tell you about some lovely people I had the pleasure of meeting yesterday. It was a mixed group of all ages and from different countries and denominations. Some were very well dressed, some very casual but one young man stood out by his attire. He was dressed very raggidly, with long careless hair and not shaved for days. As the conversation developed it became quite clear that this young man, I would say around 25 years old, was a most compassionate and kind young man. It reminded me and others in the group, just because peoples dress and behaviour might not fit the social norms and their looks might not fit in with others peoples expectations of beauty, but their hearts might be as loving and kind as anyone’s. There is a lot of wisdom spoken at the breakfast table and it is a beautiful thing that people feel relaxed and at home to speak freely and may every morning be astir with the harvest of night for us all to live in peace.
Good morning everyone and welcome. Well, this morning at the breakfast table a guest stumbled to their seat and spilled some coffee from the mug they were carrying and they were all apologies. We tidied up and all settled down again. When one senior person at the table wisely said we all stumble from time to time and there is a lot of jostling and hurrying in life and what sometimes spills out can be anger, annoyance. Wouldn't it be nice if what spilled out would be sunshine and happiness, a nice lesson for us all today. There is nothing like a walk early in the morning no matter where but in my case it is around the farm and through the gardens. I try to do this most mornings. It is amazing what you see and hear. The amazing bird song, the scent of flowers and trees, the curious looks from all the animals thinking "are you bearing gifts (feed)?", the soft dew on the grass and the tapestry of the spider webs to be seen from pillar to post. Nature is all consuming, no petrol fumes, no traffic jams and now that we are heading into a long weekend make a special effort to get out into nature and savour the joy and peace that is available to all in this world. Joy is a gift and it comes from our care and who we are, our very being. It is a gift of our own choosing and our response to whatever comes to us in any moment.
Good morning everyone and welcome to Ballinwillin House Farm, Gardens and RetrEat centre. Another beautiful sunny morning and we are celebrating the birth of another new month, the month of June. The Mindful Farmer is also celebrating as we completed our forage harvest last evening. All our hay and haylage bailed for another year and for the first time in many years all done in the fabulous month of May. For a farmer, the harvest is all consuming because the success of the harvest governs the whole year ahead for ones animals and their autumn, winter feed so that is why I am so grateful, happy and joyful this morning. Joy and happiness does not totally depend on what happens in our daily lives. We can have joy all the time and in every day. Joy is a gift and it comes from our care and who we are, our very being. It is a gift of our own choosing and our response to whatever comes to us at any moment. When I look around me and view the earths wonders like the fields on the farm in Johns mountain today. A perfect fabric of landscape, the fields rising up from the valley, all decorated with white and pink whitethorn and hawthorn trees and the now fading yellow of the gorse all set off by the lush green fields. All that is left for me to do is breathe in these rich blessings and forget what lies behind me. Another great day to be alive and a farmer and in the fields where they become presences in my mind. The guests at breakfast were all talking of the same beauty and one very kind American lady said "the seed of beauty, goodness and truth is visible in the garden and these qualities lie within but they are very noticeable here in your gardens at Ballinwillin House."
Another Sunday, another beautiful sunny day and as I walked around the garden this morning the perfume and beauty of the roses was a sight and smell to behold. The guests at breakfast were all talking of the same beauty and one very kind American lady said "the seed of beauty, goodness and truth is visible in the garden and these qualities lie within but they are very noticeable here in your gardens at Ballinwillin House."
